It happens, but I'm glad it did, because it brought the issue described several times in this thread, to our attention. I accidentally had IT install the Free Version of Resolve. So, my account does not have admin privileges, meaning I have to get someone from our IT team to install Resolve on my account.
The way IT works at the company I'm at is that we are all non-privileged users. Our company got Resolve Studio 17 for certain members of our team, myself included. Wanted to add on my experience to this thread since some of the posts here helped us pinpoint the issue, which in my opinion is a very annoying design flaw in how this program installs. I would suggest you attempt to install Resolve 16.2.5 and you should not have any issues. Since it sounds like you don't want to mess with that, I won't post those details here (though you can find them in this forum with a search). If you somehow get into a situation like this, and Resolve is no longer available to uninstall in the Programs and Features panel, then the only option is to install a newer version, or edit the Windows Registry with regedit to remove the Resolve version number.
This error is caused because there IS a Windows Registry entry with the current installed Resolve version. If you install that, you should not get the error. As an example, Resolve 16.2.5 was released today.
The majority of users never run into such issues.Īlso note that if you get the error you describe, about a newer version being installed, that if you install a truly newer version, it should get past that error. If you manually remove Resolve related files/folders, or use disk cleanup apps that delete said folders, or use other uninstall methods, you can run into issues like you are describing. There is generally no issue uninstalling Resolve on Windows, as long as you use the Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features panel to do the uninstall.
